Advancing Malaysia–Indonesia Dialogue on Precious-Metals Recycling
An engagement with the Indonesian Embassy explored proposed precious-metals recycling initiatives, investment guidance and regional circular-economy cooperation.
PERKESA and Kenanga Waja Sdn. Bhd. (KWSB) visited the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuala Lumpur on 20 October 2026 to discuss proposed catalytic-converter recycling and platinum-group-metals (PGM) recovery initiatives. Dato’ G Kumaar Aamaan, President of PERKESA and Chairman of KWSB, led the delegation, sharing project materials and exploring opportunities for Malaysia–Indonesia economic cooperation.
The briefing outlines a proposed PGM and catalytic-converter recycling facility in Jakarta, alongside a related proposal at Azerbaijan’s Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ). Both concepts envisage an initial site of approximately 1.0–1.2 acres, with potential benefits including technical skills development, employment, resource recovery and local industrial development.
PERKESA and KWSB extend their appreciation to Danang Waskito, Deputy Chief of Mission / Minister at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, for his encouragement and strategic guidance. The organisations also thank Maria Kusumanegari, Counsellor for Economic Affairs, for facilitating introductions and providing guidance on Indonesia’s investment climate, procedures and opportunities.
The organisations also acknowledge the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for its guidance on the proposed AFEZ initiative. Together, the proposals reflect an interest in high-value materials recovery and responsible industrial cooperation across the region.
The phased development concept begins with feasibility studies, site selection and the necessary approvals, followed by potential partner agreements and pilot development. Any construction, commissioning or operation would depend on those assessments and the relevant commercial, investment and environmental requirements.
Both initiatives remain proposals, with no final investment or implementation decision announced. References to agencies, industry bodies and potential partners indicate intended engagement, not confirmed participation, endorsement or regulatory approval. PERKESA and KWSB look forward to continued dialogue on responsible recycling and long-term regional value.
